Who qualifies for CommuniCare?
All CommuniCare services begin with a call to our toll-free number:

To be eligible:
- You must be a South Carolina resident under the age of 65.
- You must meet income criteria as established by CommuniCare.
- You must not be covered by any form of health insurance, including Medicaid, Medicare, and Veteran's health benefits.
- Your family's household income must be at or below 200% of the Federal Property Level to qualify.
- You or someone in your household must show proof of income from one of the following sources:
- Current employer.
- Current unemployment compensation.
- Current Social Security Retirement benefits and be under 65 years of age.
- Current Social Security Disability benefits or Workers' Compensation.
- Patient eligibility is for up to one year. Patients may reapply each year for CommuniCare services.
- CommuniCare requires a $20 application processing fee with each new or renewed application. This fee is an application fee and does not guarantee that a patient will be eligible for CommuniCare services. There is never a charge for the medication.
For eligibility, does household income include all family members or just the patient?
It includes all family members. The household must fall below 200% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines.

How does a patient get a prescription filled at no cost?
An approved CommuniCare patient must have a prescription written by a licensed provider, and mailed to CommuniCare with the application or have the provider fax it to CommuniCare's pharmacy. Only a recognized healthcare provider may fax prescriptions to CommuniCare.
Can a patient be a Lilly Cares and CommuniCare client?
Yes. If the patient qualifies, they can be a participant in both programs.
If a patient has a question about their medication, who do they call?
Patients are encouraged to call either the CommuniCare pharmacy at our toll free number 1.800.983.3339 or the doctor who prescribed the medication.
When should a patient call the pharmacy to get their prescription refilled?
Patients can call the CommuniCare pharmacy to refill their prescription ten days prior to their last pill at our toll free number 1.800.983.3339.
