Communicare's central-fill pharmacy receives donations of brand-name medications directly from pharmaceutical companies and dispenses prescriptions by mail at no charge to eligible patients. The Medications list covers twenty different therapeutic drug classes and includes over 381 legend non-controlled oral, topical, inhalation, and injectable drugs.

November, 2001 - Abbott Labs joined Communicare, providing Synthroid to our patients. Synthroid is used in the treatment of thyroid hormone replacement and is the second most prescribed medication in the United States. In 2005, Abbott Labs donated $650,700 in pharmaceuticals.

November, 2001 - AstraZeneca joined Communicare, providing Nexium, Prilosec, and Toporal. Nexium and Prilosec are used to treat Gastroesophageal Reflux. Toporal is used to treat cardiovascular hypertension. In 2005, AstraZeneca donated $2,833,640 in pharmaceuticals.

November, 2001 - Bristol-Myers Squibb joined Communicare, providing Glucophage XR. Glucophage is the leading medication used to treat diabetes. In 2005, Bristol-Myers Squibb donated $2,313,078 in pharmaceuticals.

December, 1996 - Eli Lilly and Company provided Humulin and other drugs, making Communicare one of the first programs in the country to offer diabetic care at this level. In 2005, Eli Lilly donated $6,479,824 in pharmaceuticals.

2003 - GlaxoSmithKline joined Communicare, offering new medications for asthma and diabetes. The company's product line includes Advair, Avandia, and Wellbutrin. In 2005, GlaxoSmithKline donated $2,458,708 in pharmaceuticals.

August, 1993 - Johnson & Johnson joined Communicare, adding products from their family companies (Janssen, Ortho Pharmaceuticals, McNeil Pharmaceuticals). In 2005, these pharmaceutical companies donated $4,462,032 in pharmaceuticals.

May, 2005 - Merck began donating prescription medications to Communicare. Their product line includes Zocor, Singulair, Proscor, Cozaar, Hyzaar, Maxalt, Cosopt, Trusopt, and Fosamax. In 2005, Merck donated $306,890 in pharmaceuticals.

April, 2005 - Novartis joined Communicare. They are donating 16 of their leading prescription medications. These include medications to treat high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, and epilepsy. Communicare is the first statewide program in the United States to receive such a donation from Novartis. In 2005, Novartis donated $378,374 in pharmaceuticals.

October, 2004 - Novo Nordisk Pharmaceuticals joined Communicare. They donate their line of insulin and insulin delivery systems for the treatment of diabetes. In 2005, NovoNordisk donated $124,471 in pharmaceuticals.

August, 1993 - A major development occurred when Pfizer announced their commitment to supply their comprehensive line of pharmaceutical medications to Communicare patients. Pfizer, with their January, 2000 acquisition of Parke-Davis, expanded their available medications to include all of Parke-Davis' products. Parke-Davis made Lipitor, a cholesterol lowering medication, available to Communicare in July, 1998. In 2005, Pfizer donated $6,193,991 in pharmaceuticals.

May, 2001 - Tap Pharmaceuticals joined Communicare, making Prevacid available. Prevacid is the leading medication in the treatment of Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease. In 2005, Tap donated $1,213,711 in pharmaceuticals.
